Borderlands 2: Zer0 Sword Build by thegadgetfish Borderlands 2: Zer0 Sword Build by thegadgetfish
The digistruct sword that Zer0 uses was just too amazing, so I had to make it. It's lit up with LED ribbon, connected to a 9v battery.

Materials used:
- Wood: MDF, Basswood
- Blue Acrylic
- Blue LED ribbon, toggle switch, battery snap, 9v battery

Hey! It looks fantastic!!! And it just happens to be PERFECT to be used in our indie movie about the School of True Magic) for the main Hero Tristan. Is it possible to use it in our movie? please email at ksenia.a.ilina@gmail.com or koloboosh@gmail.com.

It looks amazing, man, but to me, it looks a bit short, considering Zero's about 6'6''.

Any chance of us getting a fairly in-depth (more then just the facebook pictures) tutorial on how to make this?

Mind if I ask how you're powering that LED strip with a 9v? Everywhere I go says 12v x.x

... Good question. I definitely have 12v led strips, and it just.. works. LOL.

Lawl. That's good enough for me xD. In that case, what's the battery life like?

I've actually never tested it for a prolonged period before. Currently, it's hooked up to a wall outlet, so I can just leave it on forever. Someone on reddit calculated it for me once, and I -think- they said it would last 2 hours.. my memory is a tad faulty though.

Well that's not too bad for my purposes. Oh, and thanks for answering my questions! I appreciate it. Hopefully you wouldn't mind answering a few more should the need arise? Your sword inspired me to try and make my own.

this is very cool but one question what is a led ribbon ?

:iconthegadgetfish:
thegadgetfish Featured By Owner Feb 16, 2014
It's basically a long, thin strip of leds. They sell them in rolls, so you can cut off the specific length you want, and the whole ribbon will light up.

Neato.
But i sort of think Zer0's sword is more cyan colored than this.

How long did it take you to build it? looks damn epic, i would definitely want to try and make my own. Also, for the helmet, you should get some semi-thin plastic for the visor, and a morph suit mask or something for the rest.

I think it took around 25 hours or so, over the course of a few months. I'm going to try vacuum-forming some thin plastic for the visor (once I get motivation, haha). Thanks!

This is really cool! I am thinking about cosplaying as Zero, but I am having trouble coming up with ideas on just how I am going to make the helmet. Any suggestions?

I think his helmet is the most difficult part of the helmet. I'm going to try vacuum forming a piece of plastic for the visor. I can't really think of any other way to get the curved shape. Have you looked at Daft Punk helmet tutorials? I think it'd be similar to that. Good luck!

I have, trust me I know plenty of vacuum forming. If you have questions just ask, a tip I can give you, use your oven it is the best heat source for vaccum forming aside from those industrial vacuum-forming machines.

Are you planning on making a sniper rifle as well? Those also glow in places and I'd love to see one in RL.

Nope, no circuit diagram needed, unless you're trying to hook up each led individually. It's just 1 long led ribbon, hooked up to a battery snap and toggle switch.
